Would China be where she is now if the Kuomintang had won the civil war againts the Communist after WW2 ?

China engaged in a bitter civil war right after the surrender of Imperial Japan Army in the WW2. As we all know the Communist won and the Kuomintang fled to Taiwan. China today has emerged to become one of the wealthiest and developed country in the world and it is speculated that it may in the future equal the US in terms of political influence. Do you think if 60 years ago the outcome of the civil war was reversed and Kuomintang was the winner, can they bring China to the level of success as the communist had did today?
