Can You Bring A Skateboard onto American Airlines Planes?

Ive never brought my skateboard on a plane. I have a skateboard bookbag and a skateboard duffel bag that holds skateboard on bottom. Could i walk around with my skateboard or hold it on my backpack and go on plane itself and put it aboard?
