Did I tear a Vocal Chord? if so, what do i do/how can i heal it?

tonight i was singing in my car rather loudly and at a high pitch when i felt a pain in my lower left side of my throat that feels almost like a really deep-seated toothache... in my throat, and whenever i sing certain pitches i get a very odd over pronounced overtone that i can actually feel vibrating in that area. It also now hurts when i cough or speak loudly, etc. I suspect that i have torn one of my vocal chords and i am wondering if i will be able to continue singing, and how i might rehabilitate myself to sing?
