Depression Medication?

I was on Effexor Xr for about 6mths but then got into a financial pickle and had to come off it (without dr supervision or advice) after about a month i noticed i lost about 5kg, people close to me reckon it was the anti-depressant that made me put on the weight and then when i weened off it the weight came off to. I am going to see my phychiatriast on Thursday. I reckon she will want to put me back on medication, but I am really not looking forward to the neausious feeling/headache for days or putting the weight back on and having to worry about taking meds. How can i explain that I feel I am coping WITHOUT the medication ok. I reckon she will tell me its only a matter of time before I start going backwards.
